Noon O Kabab

This weekend I ate out a LOT. I don't mind, though, because I get some good ideas and inspiration when I eat something other than what I make. One of the best places I went this weekend was a Persian restaurant called Noon O Kabab.

When I first glanced at the menu, I was glad to see they had some good sounding vegetarian fare, and not just hummus and baba gannouj. Don't get me wrong, I love those things, too, and I'm sure Noon O Kabob's are great, but a girl cannot live on chickpeas and eggplant alone. So I thought I'd get the Vegetarian Mix - I'm a sucker for anything with lots of different vegetables and the cinnamon tomato sauce sounds incredible! - but then I saw that the Shirin Polo was "highly recommended." They describe it as a sweet and sour persian rice. It sounded good to me, so that's what I ordered.

It turned out to be unlike anything else I'd had before. The first thing I noticed was how pretty it was! On a bed of white persian rice were shredded carrots, turmeric-yellow rice, finely grated orange peel and sliced almonds and pistachios. It's also studded with golden raisins and pomegranate seeds. It was a perfectly sweet, light meal for a Saturday afternoon. Next time I come here I may try something else, but for now I'm adding my own high recommendation for the Shirin Polo!
