Gowasabi

I'm living in Astoria now, and one of my favorite restaurants is Gowasabi. It's a Korean/Japanese place and since they don't actually have that many vegan options I get the same thing pretty much everytime. But those things are amazing.

This is their kimchee and miso soup. This kimchee is on my list of top ten favorite foods right now. It's so good, I want to marry it.

Here's a closeup of the vegetable gyoza (aka potstickers, aka dumplings). They're pan-fried and served with a very light and slightly sweet dipping sauce. Also, I think it's hilarious that they serve them on a doily.

In my severe state of hunger I forgot to get a shot of the main course, Bibimbop. I get it with brown rice, tofu, and of course no egg. It's really a very simple dish, but I love the korean chili sauce they serve with it at Gowasabi. It's a really satisfying meal.

hello Lauren, i'm thinking about get in Natural Gourmet Institute but at their site i saw there are animal 'products' on the course.
do you think it is posible to do the course but not 'learing' cooking with animal stuff?
cheers!

Hi tatiana-

You can definitely do the Natural Gourmet's program without cooking any animal products. That's why I decided to go there - they are very supportive of the vegan lifestyle. Vegans aren't required to take any of the animal classes, nor do they have to cook or eat anything they aren't comfortable with.

Hi! ^__^
Just arribed by this blog... so nice blog! I'll return frecuently here =)
Here in Bogotá (Colombia) there is a thai restaurant named Wok... and there is a lot of vegetarian options... and is too similar than this stuff you show here... is so nice to find that kind of restaurants that look for vegetarian options, ne?

Hi Lauren,

I am glad that you are posting again! I moved to the Chicago area just after you started this blog. Although I have been vegan for a long time (since 1992), I have found this site to be a great resource for restaurants and recipe ideas.
